| 抄録 | The kagura tradition of western Japan -- "Iwami" refers not to the present-day city but the ancient region now part of the Shimane prefecture--depicts Kojiki and Nihon shoki，mythical stories from the 8th-c.，through dance，song，masked theater，and percussion music. The development of the genre is explored from its Buddhist and Shinto roots to the present，and performances are described. |
