| Abstract | 이 글은 깨달음 직후 붓다의 내적 사유로 연기설이 배대된 원인을 비교적 이른 전승에 속하는 상윳따 니까야 인연상응을 중심으로 살펴본 것이다. 이 텍스트에서 연기라는 주제로 묶여진 경전은 모두 93개이다. 다시 이것을 갈애, 식과 명색, 무명, 행들이라는 4가지의 기준으로 분류한 것은 다양한 연기설이 공통으로 지향하는 해탈도의 특징을 찾기 위해서이다. 이 분류에 따르면 연기설의 모든 유형은 재생의 관념을 내포하고 있으며 반야에 의한 통찰을 기반으로 하고 있다. 즉 바른 삼매에 의한 해탈도가 아니라는 것이다. 연기설에서 반야에 의한 통찰은 고통을 소멸하기 위한 목적으로 이루어지며, 구체적으로 고통이 일어나는 원인들을 재생으로 이끄는 직접적인 원인까지 소급하여 분석한 다음, 그 정점에 놓인 원인의 철저한 이욕과 소멸로부터 거기에서 파생된 결과를 하나씩 소멸하는 과정으로 나타나기도 하고, 노사라는 고통에 직면한 자의 문제 제기(여리작의나 숙고) 및 그 인과관계를 반야에 의해 통찰하는 과정으로 설명되기도 하며, 노사～행들까지의 구성요소 하나하나를 4제와 동일한 방식으로 분명하게 아는 차제에서 그 근간을 이루기도 한다. 한마디로 연기설은 반야에 의한 통찰의 다양한 실례를 보여준다는 것이다. 더욱이 반야에 의한 무명의 제거가 불교 해탈도의 중심을 이루는 내용임을 감안할 때, 그 사실여부를 떠나 율장편찬자들이 12연기설을 깨달음 직후에 배대한 이유를 유추할 수 있다. This paper thus attempts to outline an alternative reading of that the theory of dependent origination(paṭiccasamuppāda) is virtually equated with inner exploration of the Buddha's complete enlightenment. It is generally considered that dependent origination, especially in the form of the twelvefold chain of dependent origination is closely related to the Buddha's enlightenment. Owing to locus of the form of the twelvefold chain of dependent origination has presented before "First Sermon" after Supreme and Perfect Enlightenment in Pali-Vinaya. Therefore it has been read as Buddha's own inner witness by many Buddhists in later times. But from a Frauwallner point of view, it is obvious that this tenet not having been thaught by Buddha, at least not in an early period of his long preaching. Thus why the form of the twelvefold chain of dependent origination is purposefully incorporated into Basket of Discipline, as the Buddha's enlightenment by the Theravādins? In order to explain their intension behind, this article is concerned with the Book of Causation(Nidānasaṃyutta;因緣相應) which collects into ninety-three short suttas directed to dependent origination in the Saṃyutta-Nikāya Ⅱ. I find various chains of cause, prerequisites, and consequences and their chains are intimately linked with the origin and cessation of whole mass of suffering in this text. First of all, I shall direct my attention here to the series known as the 4-chains of the origination of suffering dependent on conditions, beginning with craving(taṅhā), perception(viññāṇa) and name-form(namarūpa), will-impulses(saṅkhārā), ignorance(avijjā). They are root causes of suffering and lead to the production of furture renewed existence, future rebirth, aging-and-death. But in this text, the path of discriminating insight(paññā) is described to eliminates root causes of aging-and-death as rebirth of suffering and developed through various stages, for example, discrimination of a causes and prerequisites of series-Buddha's careful attention(yoniso manasikāra) or the noble disciple's thorough investigation-looking upon with right discriminating insight(sammapññāya). Above all, this method has been regarded that best of the path toward salvation, as released from rebirth and suffering. Moreover, the form of the twelvefold chain of dependent origination is coupled with discriminating insight directly. For that reason, probably it has introduced the Buddha's enlightenment by the Theravādins, as Buddha's own inner witness. |
